About this project

Craftify Box is a side project, run by one person, still being figured out. This page says exactly what that means so nobody has to guess.

What it is

An attempt to build craft boxes that are actually good: one project per box, everything needed in the right quantity, and instructions written for someone who has never done the craft before and does not want to be patronised about it.

The idea came out of buying a few kits and being annoyed by them. One arrived with barely enough thread to finish the design on the front of the packet. One had a beautiful printed card that showed the finished object and told you almost nothing about how to get there. One had clearly been assembled by someone who had never made the thing themselves, because two of the materials could not be used together.

None of that is hard to fix. It just requires making the thing first, and being willing to throw away a box design that turns out not to work.

What it is not

  • Not a company. There is no registered business, no team, no office and no address to put in a footer. It is one person and a spare room.
  • Not a shop. Nothing on this site takes payment. There is no basket, no checkout and no pre-order, because taking money for a box that does not exist would be dishonest.
  • Not launched. No box has been assembled and posted to anyone. There are no customers, so you will not find reviews or testimonials here — there is nothing genuine to quote, and inventing some would tell you everything you need to know about the boxes.
  • Not a subscription. The plan is one-off boxes you buy once, if and when they exist. Nothing recurring, nothing to cancel.

What is actually done

Being specific rather than vague, because "coming soon" can mean anything:

  • Six box concepts worked out in detail — the project, the materials list, the skill level, the failure points. Those are the pages under the boxes.
  • The written guides, which are the part that takes longest and matters most. Twelve are finished and published in the journal. They are free and will stay free.
  • Nothing else. No suppliers under contract, no packaging designed, no pricing, no launch date. When any of that changes it will be said plainly here rather than implied by a countdown timer.

How this site is built

Plain HTML and CSS, hand written, no JavaScript at all. It sets no cookies, loads nothing from any other server, and has no analytics, no tracking pixels and no advertising. The fonts and images are served from this domain. Nothing about you is collected, because nothing is collected.

The contact and notify links open your own email application. There is no form handler storing addresses in the background.

Getting in touch

Questions, corrections to a guide, or a craft you think should be a box — the contact page has an email link. Corrections to the journal are particularly welcome; if something in a guide is wrong, it should be fixed.
